What do we use in a Pilates Session?
At The Pilates Suite we use various STOTT PILATES ® equipment including the V2 Max Reformer ™, Vertical Frame , Ladder Barrel, Arc Barrel, Spine Corrector, Stability Chair ™ , BOSU ® and small props in a series of Pilates exercises to Strengthen, Lengthen and Tone the body.
What is a Reformer?
The Pilates Reformer is an exercise machine where Springs, Leverage and Body weight are used as resistance targeting specific muscle groups while performing Pilates Exercise movements. The addition of accessories for the reformer including the Cardio-Tramp ® and Jumpboard & Cross-Bow ™, allow for a greater range of Pilates Exercise movements catering for both rehabilitation and athletic conditioning.
What is a Stability Chair?
The Stability Chair is a multi-functional pilates machine using Springs and body weight as a resistance to achieve Upper and Lower body strength, conditioning and stability. Ideal for rehab clients or those who need to stay in a seated or upright position, helping re-balance muscles while providing a full-body workout. It also facilitates high-performance exercises for athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Its Dual Pedal function allows for bilateral, unilateral and reciprocal movements improving stability and balance.
What is a Vertical Frame?
The Vertical Frame is a sturdy steel construction with attached Springs and Strap, allowing you to perform numerous Cadillac and Trapeze exercises on the reformer from a supine , prone, side-lying, seated or standing position.
What is a Ladder Barrel?
The Ladder Barrel combines wooden ladder rungs with a barrel surface connected by a sliding base to accommodate different torso sizes and leg lengths. The ladder barrel challenges core stability and strength and is ideal for stretching.
What is a Spine Corrector?
The Spine Corrector is part of the Barrel family. It is a wooden and dense foam padded piece of equipment with handgrips. It is ideal for mobilising and aligning the spine. Exercises which lengthen and strengthen the torso, shoulders, back and legs may also be performed on the spine corrector.
What is an Arc Barrel?
The Arc Barrel is the baby of the Barrel family. Its wooden and dense foam construction has a more gentle curve and is ideally used for both rehabilitation and athletic conditioning exercises on the mat.
What is a Bosu®?
With Its Inflated Rubber Hemisphere (half ball appearance) attached to a platform, the Bosu® Trainer is a device primarily used for balance training.
What are Small Props?
The use of toning balls, stability balls™, flex bands, fitness circles® and foam cushions to enhance your workout.
Class or Private session first?
A Private session is best to assess your level of fitness and understanding of the Pilates movement and equipment. A Private session is necessary if you are returning from injury* / illness*/ Surgery* or have not been physically active in recent times. For new students who are currently active joining in on a group class will be just fine for you as your instructor can make the necessary modifications to exercises if need be. Arriving 15 minutes prior to your first class will ensure an historical on your fitness status is obtained prior to class time.
· The Following Contraindications will require an Initial Consultation and Private Session to assess the level of fitness prior to commencing a Pilates session. A Medical Certificate will also be required.
· A Recent injury causing pain during exercise or pain within 2 hours post exercise.
· You have a Health Concern of Diabetes / High or Low Blood Pressure / Scoliosis / Parkinsons Disease Breast/Surgery /Auto-Immune disorder / Heart Disease
· You have had major surgery in the last 12 months
· You are Pregnant / Post Partum
Can I still participate in a class if have sustained an Injury or have recently had surgery?
Depending on the level of severity and the duration of time since the Injury/Surgery. A medical certificate will be required prior to commencement along with a private session to assess your level of mobility whilst ensuring your safety. See above.
What do I need to know for my first class?
Please arrive 15 minutes early to your first class. This will enable you to complete a welcome form and chat to your instructor about any concerns you may have.
What do I wear?
Gym Training Gear is the most appropriate type of clothing to wear during your session. Please also bring along Water and a pair of gripper socks for hygiene and grip purposes for use on the equipment.
Can I claim my sessions on health insurance?
Our Pilates Sessions are not claimable on health insurance.
